Get ready for the Central Coast Cup!

Information for Competitors:

We’re looking forward to seeing you at our upcoming karate competition - The Central Coast Cup!

Please take a few minutes to read through the following information. It explains what to bring and what’s required /expected for both kata and kumite.


Compulsory Safety Equipment for Kumite Competitors:

  • Groin guard (Males only)

  • Mouthguard - correctly moulded and fitted

  • WKF approved Red AND Blue Kumite Gloves

  • WKF approved Red AND Blue 'duck-feet' Shin Guards - these must be fitted correctly (no toes showing)

  • WKF approved Chest protector (Females only - this is usually compulsory but if you do not have one, as long as you have a body protector it will be allowed at the CC Cup) 

  • WKF approved Body protector – these can be worn under or over the karategi

  • WKF approved Head guard (for ALL under 14s) 

  • Red AND blue Karate belts - Competitors must wear a WKF Approved red belt (AKA), or blue belt (AO) as allocated by the draw. Belts must be of a length sufficient to allow fifteen centimetres free on each side of the knot but not longer than three-quarters thigh length. And we currently have them on sale (two for the price of one!).

Karategi Rules - Kata & Kumite Competitors 

  • For this competition, BBMA standard Gi's/BBMA branded Gi's ARE permitted. along with any WKF-approved Kumite Gi (for Kumite divisions) or Kata Gi (for Kata divisions).

  • Your Karategi must fit properly. Do not roll up arms or legs.

  • Karategi ties must be attached, and you must demonstrate that they are tied (done up) prior to competition

  • Karategi's must be clean and in 'as new' condition

Ideal Gi sizing guidelines for Competition:

  • The jacket, when tightened around the waist with the belt, must be of a minimum length that covers the hips, but should not be more than three-quarters thigh length.

  • Female Competitors can wear a plain white T-shirt beneath the Karate jacket.

  • Gi Tops/Jackets without ties cannot be used. The jacket ties holding the jacket in place must be tied at the beginning of the performance.

  • Ideally, the maximum length of the jacket sleeves should be no longer than the bend of the wrist and no shorter than halfway down the forearm.

  • Jacket sleeves may not be rolled up.

  • The trousers must be long enough to cover at least two thirds of the shin and must not reach below the anklebone. Trouser legs may not be rolled up.

Rules re General Appearance - Kata & Kumite

  • No jewellery, earrings, necklaces, watches, fitbits

  • No facial piercing (eg. eg. nose-rings)

  • Long hair to be tied up simply, in a single tie/elastic (no elaborate hair styles, and no hair in eyes)

  • Fingernails and toe nails must be clean and clipped short

  • Gi's tied up securely
